The North West Saluki Conservation Club was formed over ten years ago, we are a small syndicate of Saluki enthusiasts who run pure breed Salukis’ to work with falcons and guns. We are trying to keep the Saluki as a working breed. We are not interested in the show scene and believe in only breeding for working ability and temperament.
The Kennel Club and breed clubs and the money making breeders are not helping this great breed.
Maybe for us it is for time for our own STUD BOOK, for working salukis and for the good of the Saluki??
We are all members of the Countryside Alliance and are fully insured, we run one saluki with a falcon or work with a gun. Hares get a minimum of 80-100 yards law. We are out to enjoy a day’s sport, not to kill a lot game. Last season we started on the 9 September, we had a good day bagging 5 hares. Our last day was the 7th March; we caught 25 blue hares, and 1 rabbit; we had 42 days of sport.
We caught 128 head of game 110 hares, 16 rabbits, 1 fox and 1 rat. We are happy to go rabbiting when asked and fulfil a pest control need. All of our saluki’s work with ferrets and are not bad on the lamp but I don’t think it’s a good idea for day time dogs to have a lot of lamping.
Many years ago we produced a leaflet the statement below is taken from it...
“Please remember all field sports men and women should realise the importance of unity, for if hunting and coursing are in the front line of battle to save field sports then shooting, fishing, horse racing and showing are in the second line. If one goes then the others will surely follow because the “Anti” believes that we are all exploiting animals.
The “Anti” is at best ill informed and at worst nothing more than a terrorist. It is for this reason that we as sportsmen and women must stand together and help each other all we can”
